Asthma Alert 6th Grade Tdap RequirementNC Law requires students entering 6th Grade in a NC Public School to have had a Tdap or Td vaccine within the last 5 years. The school requires documentation of this vaccine within 30 calendar days of school starting on August 25, 2010. The deadline for students to receive the vaccine and the school to receive documentation is September 23, 2010. Students not fulfilling this requirement by the deadline will/may be suspended from school until the requirement is met. Please contact your child's doctor or the Health Department to make an appointment for your child to receive this vaccine if she/he has not had it within the last 5 years. The telephone number to make an appointment at the Alamance County Health Department is (336) 570-6747. Please contact the school or School Nurse if you have questions about this requirement. Summertime is a perfect time to get this requirement taken care of! Please remember to give documentation to the school and keep a copy for your records.
Asthma AlertPeople with asthma need to know about possible things that may trigger an asthma attack and ways to avoid them. Possible asthma triggers are pollen, strong odors, animal dander, humidity, wet weather, drastic temperature changes, very cold temperature, second hand smoke, strong emotions (anger, crying, laughter). Also, many children who have asthma do not bring their inhalers with them to school. Parents, please remind your children to keep their inhalers with them at all times. For all medications taken at school the school must have a medication authorization form completed and signed by the physician and parent. Please contact the school nurse for questions about this form or any questions pertaining to your child's asthma care.
